Dentist Cornwall | Dental World in St Columb Major, Newquay | Regular Dental Care
Bad Breath

In almost all cases bad breath (halitosis) comes from debris within and the tissues of the mouth. It is very rare for it to be a sign of any other illness.
To combat bad breath we would recommend:-

  1. Excellent oral hygiene.
    • A Braun/Oral B electric toothbrush.
    • Interdental cleaning with glide dental tape and/or tepe brushes.
    • Use of a tongue scraper
    • Corsodyl daily or Dentyl mouthrinse.
  2. Regular visits to the hygienist
  3. Keep yourself properly hydrated

Hygienist

We have two caring and experienced hygienists who will help show you ways of improving the health of your gums through good homecare and good professional care. This combination is essential in fighting the effects of gum disease and we advise all our clients to visit their hygienist regularly. Most people need to see their hygienist every 6 months but some will need 3 monthly appointments. We will advise you.
The hygienists will gently clean the areas of your mouth that you have been unable to get to. This will leave your mouth feeling fresh and clean. They may suggest that medicaments are placed into areas of infection possibly combined with oral antibiotics if appropriate.

Hygienist appointments from only £

Many clients who visited the hygienist also purchased:-

  • An electric toothbrush
  • Glide dental tape
  • Tepe brushes
  • Mouthrinse

Mouthguards

Available for both adults and children.  Custom made to fit your mouth accurately and therefore working properly to protect your teeth and soft tissues from injury whilst playing sport. Most schools insist that pupils wear mouth guards for hockey, rugby, boxing etc. We would wholeheartedly agree with this and urge parents to purchase our custom fitted mouthguards rather than the cheaper ‘boil& bite’ type which are often ill fitting and useless, and can be dangerous.

Our mouthguards come in a variety of colours and designs which you can mix & match yourself.

Mouthguard prices from only £63

Dentures

If teeth have been lost, dentures are a means of restoring your smile and your bite. The design is bespoke to your own individual requirements. Your dentist and the laboratory technician who makes your denture will advise on suitable designs for your mouth.

Dentures may be acrylic based or metal based, they may have one tooth, a few teeth or replace all your teeth. You will be able to choose the shade of your teeth and will see your dentures before they are finished to make sure you are happy with the smile they produce.

Prices for dentures from only £376

X-Ray Examination

Dental X-Rays  show us areas of your mouth and teeth that we cannot get to examine otherwise. They allow us to assess the health of your teeth, gums and bone. The modern X-Ray machines that we operate expose you to an absolute minimum of radiation – to the extent that no lead aprons are not necessary to protect you during exposure. There are a number of different X-ray views taken for different purposes. Your dentist will advise you if it is appropriate for X-Rays to be taken

  • All our X-Ray machines are monitored by the Health Protection Agency
  • All staff wear X-Ray monitoring badges
  • All staff operating X-ray machines regularly attend Health & Safety Radiation  Update courses

Prices of dental X-Rays from only £7

Regular Examinations

It is important to let your dentist check your mouth regularly. Regular examinations enable us to keep your whole mouth healthy and pain free. This will give you complete peace of mind. Many problems do not cause pain initially and you may be unaware of their presence. Your Dentist can identify these problem areas early and rectify this with minimal treatment and much reduced costs. If any problems are identified at your examination you will always be provided with a printed estimate of the costs involved at the end of your examination.

Our regular examination always includes:-

  • Examination of soft issues around the mouth and neck
  • Examination of Jaw Joints and function
  • Examination of intra-oral soft tissues
  • Mouth Cancer scan
  • Examination of all tooth surfaces
  • Examination of gum health including BPE assessment of gum disease
  • Oral hygiene advice where appropriate
Price for a regular examination only £

Preventtive Care
Preventive dentistry is central to our philosophy at Dental World. We believe that everybody who commits to our preventive philosophy should keep their teeth for life. Preventing dental problems before they arise means less discomfort, less treatment and less expense. At Dental World we believe that regular care is essential to achieving and maintaining a healthy mouth. For most people this will mean regular 6 monthly appointments with the dentist and hygienist (appointments can be booked one to follow the other to cut down on the number of visits required – please ask at reception). However, in accordance with guidelines issued by NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) we will advise you if we feel you need to be seen more or less often.

Emergency Treatment

We offer our Dental World clients a ‘same day’ emergency service. Please phone Dental World as early as possible so that we can schedule you an appointment that day. Please be aware that our working hours do vary – see our opening hours.

Emergency appointments are free of charge to Dental World clients who are also members of one of our Dental Care Plans. If you have an emergency out of normal working hours please phone Dental World and our answer phone will give details of how to obtain emergency advice.

Decay
Tooth decay, known technically as dental caries, is one of the most common health complaints in the world. It is particularly common in children and young adults, and rates have been fuelled by an increase in sugars in the diet, and poor dental hygiene.

Anti-Snoring

A custom made appliance produced in a specialist dental laboratory from accurate impressions that we take. It is worn at night and acts by holding the lower jaw forward and keeping the throat open and thus reducing or eliminating snoring.

Anti – snoring device prices from only £300

Actual quote from a partner of a client for whom we made an anti-snoring device;
‘That was the best days work you have ever done!’
The client said ‘It was brilliant – it worked straight away!’

Gum Disease

More teeth are lost through gum disease than decay.

All adults suffer from gum disease but some people are more prone than others. At Dental World we will measure the extent of gum disease in your mouth each time we examine you. These results are recorded and used to determine the most appropriate treatment and to focus your treatment to where it is most needed.

Recent scientific research has established a firm link between gum disease and other serious general health issues that you should be aware of.

  • Heart Disease
  • Strokes
  • Diabetes
  • Infertility in men
  • Low birth weight babies in pregnant women

Keeping your gums healthy may help keep you healthier.

Gum disease is the major cause of Bad Breath (Halitosis)

Root Treatment

This becomes necessary when the ‘pulp’ (sometimes referred to as the ‘nerve’ in the tooth) dies. It becomes septic and infected and results in a dental abscess. An abscess is often, although not always, painful. It is often associated with swelling of the surrounding tissues and in extreme cases, can be life threatening.

Root canal treatment removes the infection whilst saving your tooth. It is a challenging procedure technically for your dentist, but we make you relaxed and comfortable throughout the procedure and indeed many of our client’s fall asleep whilst we do all the hard work! We know this because they often snore!

  • Preserves your tooth – no extraction necessary
  • Removes your pain and discomfort
  • Lowers your costs – replacing a tooth is more expensive than saving it!

Root canal treatment prices from only £138

*All clients are advised to have a crown over a root filled tooth. This covers and protects the tooth and prevents it from breaking.
